The Municipality of Alcoutim has had its “Celeiro de Ideias” (“Granary of Ideas”) application approved — a project to rehabilitate and repurpose the former EPAC granary next to the EN 122.1 road, at the entrance to the village of Alcoutim. The building will become a Business Centre and coworking space, aimed at boosting entrepreneurship, supporting job creation and helping to attract and retain residents in the area.
A new space to work and build a business inland
The future Business Centre will host a range of profiles and business initiatives, including micro-businesses, freelancers, startups and local artisans, providing the conditions to develop projects, create jobs and encourage self-employment.
Through “Celeiro de Ideias”, the Municipality aims to strengthen its strategy to attract and retain entrepreneurs, creating support services for local entrepreneurship and helping to identify and develop business opportunities.
Upgrading the surrounding area
Beyond the work on the old warehouse, the project also includes the redevelopment of the adjoining public space, with landscaping focused on improving accessibility, safety, inclusion, aesthetic quality and sustainability.

The project falls under the Algarve 2030 Regional Programme, priority 5A – Social and Territorial Cohesion, specific objective RSO5.1 (fostering integrated and inclusive social, economic and environmental development, culture, natural heritage, sustainable tourism and security in urban areas), intervention type RSO5.1-01-12 – Repurposing of public facilities and upgrading of public spaces, operation type 5025 – Repurposing of public facilities.
Local memory, looking ahead
With “Celeiro de Ideias”, the Municipality of Alcoutim intends to give new life to a building with a strong place in the community’s collective memory, turning it into a forward-looking facility that creates new economic, business and professional opportunities in the municipality.
For digital nomads and remote workers, it is another sign that the Algarve’s interior is creating real conditions for those who choose to live and work away from the big cities.
