The Loulé Environmental Centre, encompassing the Loulé and Pena hubs, was awarded an Honourable Mention in the “Individual Good Practice” category at the ODSlocal 2025 Awards. The official announcement took place on 21 November in Cadaval, during the ‘Horizons of Innovation: Achieving the Goals’ Conference, a landmark event that brings together local authorities, researchers and civil society to celebrate progress towards the United Nations 2030 Agenda.
This distinction, awarded by the ODSlocal Platform, recognises and validates the ongoing work of the Municipality of Loulé in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Environmental Centre has established itself as a fundamental pillar in this strategy, standing out for its excellence in environmental education, community mobilisation and the active promotion of sustainable practices that contribute to the quality of life in the municipality.
The award consolidates Loulé’s position on the national sustainability map, where 174 good municipal practices and 106 local projects have already been mapped and 301 sustainability indicators monitored. The initiative is driven by the ODSlocal Platform, a partnership that brings together the National Council for the Environment and Sustainable Development (CNADS), OBSERVA, MARE and 2adapt, with the support of the “la Caixa” Foundation. A recording of the conference is available for viewing on the municipality’s website.
