The Forgotten Food Festival returns this autumn with three events celebrating the cuisine, products and memories of the Algarve’s interior. Registration is now open on the project’s new website, with limited places available upon prior registration.
The third edition, organised by the QRER Cooperative, runs from September to November and introduces new experiences around regional wines and sweets, as well as the return of the iconic Piqueniques de Charme (Charming Picnics).
Agenda
14 September: Piquenique de Charme at Moinho do Gentil, Querença (10am–3pm).
19 October: ‘At Herdade do Barranco do Vale, between Letters, Grape Varieties and Flavours’ (lunch), S. Bartolomeu de Messines (9.30am–3.30pm).
16 November: Picnic de Charme at Quinta do Freixo, Benafim (9.30am–3.30pm).
Registration for the first two events is now open on the new festival website, where forms and details of each experience are available; all events have limited places and require prior registration. Updates can also be followed on the project’s and QRER’s social media, particularly on the official Instagram account @comida_esquecida.
The festival stands out for reviving foods, practices and knowledge at risk of disappearing, combining gastronomy, culture and community involvement in low-density areas. For QRER, cultural and creative tourism, rooted in local identity, is a concrete way to enhance intangible heritage and boost the economy of the Algarve’s interior.
The initiative is promoted by QRER – Cooperative for the Development of Low Density Territories, involving cooperators with the common goal of generating a positive impact in the interior of the Algarve. This edition is organised in partnership with Proactivetur, Rêverie, Herdade do Barranco do Vale and Quinta do Freixo, with Herdade wines present at all events; there is also funding and support from Turismo de Portugal, Algarve Tourism Region, Municipality of Loulé (Convite ao Interior) and Union of Parishes of Querença, Tôr and Benafim.
