Four locations are now part of the World Tourism Organization’s Global Network of Best Tourist Villages, established in 2021 and made up of 190 villages. They stand out for their excellence in environmental, cultural and heritage terms.
The towns of Ericeira (Mafra), Madalena (Pico), Manteigas and Sortelha (Sabugal) received the prestigious “Best Tourism Village” label from the United Nations World Tourism Organization, alongside 50 other global destinations.
In this third edition, 54 destinations from around the world were selected, including the four Portuguese towns, which are now part of the World Tourism Organization’s Global Network of Best Tourism Villages, established in 2021, made up of 190 villages on five continents.
In addition, the village of Vila de Frades, in Vidigueira, was selected for the Development Programme, aimed at villages that, although they do not yet fully meet the criteria to be recognized as Best Tourist Villages, deserve the support of the World Tourism Organization.
